Sleep Apnea
Do you find you wake up frequently during the night? Or, are you kept up by a snoring partner? There’s a good chance that sleep [apnea] may be to blame.
What is Sleep Apnea?
Obstructive sleep (apnea) is a condition triggered by the loss of tone in the soft tissues in the back of your throat during sleep. As you lie down to sleep, these tissues seal against each other, causing repetitive blockages of the upper airways and restricting oxygen flow. Some may notice symptoms that can include persistent snoring, tossing and turning, and even waking up gasping for air.
Sufferers of sleep apnea also note daytime sleepiness, dry mouth or throat in the mornings, fatigue, moodiness or headaches.
A Non-invasive Solution
At Dental Health Plus, we’re happy to offer a non-invasive solution to combat the effects of snoring and certain types of sleep apnea.
A custom-fit jaw device may offer fast and effective results for snoring and mild sleep apnea. This device works by gently pulling your jaw forward, which opens your airway and allows you to breathe more freely.
Oral sleep devices have a number of advantages over CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machines in that they are portable, less obtrusive, they make no noise, and are not reliant on a power source.
